This will be a short post.
I have been using every single AI model that has been released since ChatGPT 3.5. Mainly for coding.
I have been writing coding harnesses since before Claude Code was a thing. I have been advocating for AI and predicting that it would affect the software industry in ways that were unimaginable at the time.
I have been encouraging colleagues to prepare for the eventual financial impact it would bring. Many who listened have appreciated the advice a couple of years later. Mostly last year.
With every model release, I would excitedly test out the latest one to see how far things had advanced. I don’t think I missed any releases at all.
It’s mostly been predictable progress with some regressions from time to time.
I’ve been using Astra for the last 16 hours.
I’m used to being the smart one in the room. I looked down on all the models till now.
I feel the overwhelming presence of an alien-like intelligence in this one.
Something has changed, and the world is not going to go back to the way it was before.
I know it is just bits floating around in a GPU. I know it’s ephemeral. I know it’s just matrix multiplications.
I’m mostly silent today. Introspecting.
